Current vacancies - Hydro Design Engineer.

Hydro NI is the market leader in Northern Ireland in the development of Micro Hydroelectric projects. We specialise in the feasibility, design, installation and operation of micro-hydro renewable energy systems. We are a geographically distributed company covering the whole of Ireland. We have an expanding client base and an accelerating construction portfolio. An additional employee is needed on the team to meet this increasing demand. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic engineer who is keen to work in the small-scale hydro sector in Ireland.

The responsibilities of this position include:

. Site surveying and formulating planning level design drawings
. Production of detailed construction and installation drawings
. Detailed system specification and design
. Preparing and following up planning permission, abstraction license and grid connection applications
. Tender management
. Construction project management
. Managing the Installation and commissioning of turbines
. Additional project activities as and when required.

This position is intended to cover projects throughout Ireland with the significant proportion of the work in Northern Ireland. Travel to other regions may be necessary. The job will be based in our Plumbridge office but a significant degree of home working may be possible.

All candidates must:

. Be capable of designing civil engineering structures to UK Water Industry standards.
. Have an appropriate civil, mechanical or architectural engineering degree
. Have excellent CAD skills and be comfortable with packages such as AutoCAD or equivalent
. Have good computer literacy, particularly when using Microsoft Word and Excel
. Be a confident oral communicator
. Have excellent, clear and concise writing skills
. Be able to work independently and be self motivated
. Have good time management and organisational skills
. Be comfortable with working flexible hours
. Able to work within a distributed team
. Have a driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
. Be willing to travel throughout Ireland, potentially being away from home for a
number of days at a time

It is desirable but not essential that candidates have the following:

. Civil Engineering design of structures in a water environment
. Have an interest in renewable energy, particularly hydro-power
. An aptitude for hands-on project management
. Experience in conducting field surveys (either environmental or topographical)
. Experience of working in the renewable energy or construction sector
. An understanding of the planning and licensing process
. A knowledge of the planning and licensing regulations relating to microhydro
. Experience of working safely with or around low-voltage (230/415V) electrical
systems
. Good fault finding, analysis and diagnosis skills
. Site survey work can be physically demanding so reasonable physical fitness along with an enjoyment of the outdoors is advantageous

Starting salary will be competitive and will depend on ability and experience.
